Mangonui Haulage is a family owned business run by Dennis Sparksman and his son Sean. The team includes 50 drivers, seven mechanics, three engineers and seven administration staff based at their headquarters in Mangonui, Northland.

Today, the Mangonui Haulage fleet includes seven livestock truck-and-trailer vehicles, 32 logging units, three Readymix concrete trucks, five tip trucks and a water cartage unit.

Mangonui has been at the forefront of cartage, transportation and relocation in the northernmost regions of New Zealand for over 30 years. Always being keen on technology Dennis says they were the first business in Mangonui to own a computer – besides the bank!

All the vehicles run a Navman GPS system, and with MyTrucking handling the job management, Mangonui deliver a high level of efficient customer service.

How was the workflow previously managed?

Mangonui Haulage used to use a good old diary system, with paper dockets, paper runsheets and 10 different coloured pens to keep track of the state of a job.

What issues needed to be resolved?

“The amount of writing and paper to keep track of, and any changes to jobs meant everything had to be re-written. Pricing jobs was not something we looked forward to, as it took days to get all the information together and inputted into the accounts program.”

The Solution

Mangonui joined MyTrucking in December 2015

Before

  • Complicated diary
  • Lots of repeated writing
  • Too much paper
  • Risk of losing Information and not billing

After

  • Reduced data input, errors and paperwork
  • Easier and faster job management
  • Accurate invoicing
  • Greater visibility of job progress

Why MyTrucking?

“We heard positive things about MyTrucking through the grapevine and after reading an article in a trucking magazine we thought it was worth investigating further. After getting set up we quickly saw how it made the workflow easy and saved lots of time. Swapping trucks around or changing dates is easy and everyone knows what is going on.”

How easy was it switching to MyTrucking?

“Really simple, we were up and running straight away and the diary was quickly forgotten about.”

What are the key benefits that MyTrucking provides?

“MyTrucking is easy to use, and provides great information on the state of a job. The cost is well worth it for the huge amount of time it saves. We can do our jobs quicker with no chance of losing information and there is little chance of not invoicing a job now, which used to be a constant worry.”

Where has MyTrucking helped most?

“The time saving on admin has been great, job pricing is a lot easier, the office is tidier and the workflow is a lot more efficient. With the drivers using the mobile app it allows the information to be updated in real-time, which means we have great visibility of what is going on.”

“From the day we started using MyTrucking we ditched the diary and never looked back.”
